Uprising Trophy 05

Rank is a feature in the Contra series. It determines how well a player cleared a stage.

Description

Ranks range from D-S in most games (some games may feature E, the lowest rank to achieve).

Appearances

Contra: Shattered Soldier

A Hit Rate system was introduced into the series. The player must attempt to eliminate all targets and avoid dying in order to keep the final Rank as high as possible. Only a perfect score of 100% can achieve an S Rank, meaning the Hit Rate must be at 100% and the player used no lives or Continues, although the Retry option is allowed. This also means that this state must be achieved throughout the entire game, essentially playing an entire perfect run in order to view the post-credits screen and unlock certain bonuses such as the joke/developer video.

Neo Contra

Identical to the precious PS2 title, except now the S-rank requirements are less strict. A total percent of 96 or higher in a stage will achieve an S rank. The requirements for a total overall Rank are currently unknown, but as long as the player(s) try to aim for A or S ranks as much as possible, the overall rank should remain at S most of the time.

Hard Corps: Uprising

Each player can now have a separate Rank in a 2 Players game. What determines a rank is how quickly a stage was cleared and how often a player was damaged. Clearing a stage without being damaged once will easily guarantee an S rank. A higher rank means a higher score. This is important in Rising Mode so that the player can achieve many CP upon stage clear. In Rising Mode, the Stage Select screen will display the highest Rank saved for cleared Stages.

Contra: Rogue Corps

Stage Ranking returns in this title and will determine the rewards obtained upon clearing a Mission. Ranks do not appear in Exploration Missions. Obtaining all S-Ranks in every mission except the Hardcore Missions will unlock Chaos Assault.

In addition, Ranks are used to determine the strength of a weapon. For weapon usage, they are referred to as Grade. There exists the following grades: D (lowest), D+, C, C+, B, B+, A, A+, S and S+ (highest).
