Medals are a recurring type of object featured in the Contra series.

Description

Medals are small trophies or wearable awards given to those who served in battle, reflecting the real-world medals given out to military units who perform in combat admirably. In the Contra series, most Medals are simply a visual given to the player at the end of a game for a job well done, while other games have made them into a collectible.

Contra III: The Alien Wars

Should the player clear the game on Hard Difficulty, an end credits image shows Bill and Lance each wearing a formal uniform. On their left sides are spots where medals can be obscurely seen. This scene likely depicts the two receiving a "Medal of honor" for their heroic efforts at ending the Alien Wars.

Hard Corps: Uprising

In this title, Medals are a collectible item that increases Score/CP when obtained. There are three types of medals, each with their own size of addable Score. Contra: Rogue Corps

At the post-credits scene, the four playable Rogue Corps and Aero Captain receive a "Medal of honor" around their necks as a sign of thanks and good job well done, and thus are awarded for putting an end to the Damned City's reign of mass terror. This medal is round and gold with along red sash to wrap around one's neck.

In addition, this game introduces a Medals feature. Within the game are various milestones that when reached, unlock a visual Medal in the Medals menu of the Profile option of Base Camp. These can be viewed as a similar counterpart to Console Achievements, some of which meant for the game may either be the same or different from the Medals themselves. There are three collectible sizes of Medals, with the largest sized one usually the most difficult to obtain. Each Medal is named. Once a Medal is acquired, its respective name can be selected as a "favorite Medal" during Dog Tag customization. However, once a name is selected, it appears impossible to return to "no favorite Medal selected".
