A bridge is a recurring type of walkway used in the Contra series.
Description
A long walkway where the heroes can travel on foot. The most commonly used bridge is a man-made technological bridge built within portions of the Jungles of the Galuga Archipelago. In all of its appearances starting with Contra, bridges are stationed on a higher elevation of the land (most commonly above a pool of the ocean). In their appearances, there always exists some way for them to explode, either by self-destructing or by an explosive placed by Red Falcon ground forces.
Appearances
Contra
When a player steps foot on a bridge, it soon begins to explode from the left side all the way leading to the right until fully gone. A player must time a jump to avoid falling from the first explosion.
Contra 4
A Greeder stationed underneath a bridge will grapple upward and Hang underneath a bridge, instantly detonating it and himself within the next second after contact. If a player knows his position, it is possible to kill the kamikaze Greeder before his explosive detonates, thereby saving the bridge.
In early prototypes, the Greeder would crawl under the bridge a few seconds before detonating his explosive.
Contra: Operation Galuga
Similar to Contra 4, though there is enough time to spot the Greeder before he explodes (he takes a few seconds to detonate the explosive).

Trivia
- The Robot Chicken parody has Bill and Lance shoot parts of the bridge with the Spread Gun, causing a chain reaction that ultimately destroys the hovering portion of the bridge they are standing on, killing them both. In the actual gameplay of the Contra series, bridges can never be shot at to destroy, nor can their explosion ever kill a player.
- Coincidentally however, one of the Contra 4 prototypes has a bridge's explosion harm the layer, meaning it was at one point going to be possible to have an exploding bridge kill players if they stood on one.
- Although Contra: Rogue Corps simulates this damaging bridge effect, it should be noted that exploding bridges are laced with Landmines, which are the root cause of the explosions, not the bridge itself.
